HEALTHY HABITS SCHEME OF WORK FOR NURSERY ONE (THIRD TERM)

This Healthy Habits Scheme of Work for Nursery One (Third Term) was prepared in accordance to the Lagos State Government Ministry of Education, Early Childhood Care Scheme and has been simplified in such a way that all teachers taking the class will be able easily understand and prepare their lesson plans with it. 

It comprises of the topics, teaching activities and suggested learning materials.

SUBJECT: HEALTHY HABITS - NURSERY ONE (3RD TERM)

WEEK ONE: Revision of Second term's work

WEEEK TWO
• TOPIC: Sanitation
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Give simple meaning of sanitation.
ii. Discuss some places general sanitation can take place e.g. house, market, school, supermarket, road
•LEARNING MATERIALS: videos of rhymes on cleanliness and sanitation


WEEK THREE
• TOPIC: Sanitation II
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Discuss some materials that can be used for sanitation e.g. broom, rake, finger rake, parker etc.
ii. Mention the state agency in charge of sanitation in Lagos State.
*LAWMA - Lagos State Waste-Management Authority.*
iii. Group the pupils for role play on sanitation.
• LEARNING MATERIALS: Posters/Charts showing various tools used for general sanitation, e.g. broom, rake, finger rake, parker etc.


WEEK FOUR
• TOPIC: PESTS
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Display pictures and charts of different insects to discuss pests.
ii. List some examples of pests eg. houseflies, cockroach, mosquitoes etc.
iii. Discuss harmful effects of pests on man.
• LEARNING MATERIALS:


WEEK FIVE
• TOPIC: Pests Control
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
Discuss ways of reducing/ preventing pests in our environment e.g. cutting of bushes, cleaning of dirty plates and gutter, flushing of toilets, disposal of refuse, use of insecticide etc.
• LEARNING MATERIALS: Posters/Charts showing how to prevent or control pests in our environment


WEEK SIX: MID TERM BREAK

WEEK SEVEN
• TOPIC: Reptiles
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Display pictures and charts of different reptiles for discussion.
ii. Explain to pupils what reptiles are.
ii. List some examples of reptiles e.g. lizard, snake, wall-gecko etc.
• LEARNING MATERIALS: Pictures/Charts of different reptiles like lizard, snake, wall-gecko etc.


WEEK EIGHT
• TOPIC: Reptiles -Controls
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Discuss where reptiles can be found.
ii. Discuss ways of preventing reptiles in our environment e.g. use of window net, camphor, fumigation etc.
• LEARNING MATERIALS: Videos of Rhymes on Reptiles


WEEK NINE
• TOPIC: Community Hygiene - Cleanliness
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES
i. Give simple meaning of cleanliness. Also use songs and rhymes to illustrate.
ii. List and demonstrate simple household chores, e.g. sweeping, dusting, mopping etc.
iii. Train and encourage pupils to dispose refuse properly.

WEEK 12 & 13: EXAMINATION
