This Healthy Habits Scheme of Work for Nursery One (Second Term) was prepared in accordance to the Lagos State Government Ministry of Education, Early Childhood Care Scheme and has been simplified in such a way that all teachers taking the class will be able easily understand and prepare their lesson plans with it.
It comprises of the topics, teaching activities and suggested learning materials.
SUBJECT: HEALTH HABITS - NURSERY ONE (2ND TERM)
WEEK ONE: Revision of first term's work
WEEK TWO
• TOPIC: Drug Use (I)
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Discuss the simple meaning of drug.
ii. Mention and discuss management of drug to pupils e.g. no self medication, keeping drug out of reach of children, do not take overdose, do not take expired drug.
• LEARNING MATERIALS: Posters/ photographs of drugs.
WEEK THREE
• TOPIC: Drug Use (II)
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Mention and discuss the safe uses of drug to pupils e.g. to cure diseases, to heal wounds, to prevent sickness, to relax, to sleep, etc.
ii. Mention and discuss some categories of people that can use drug e.g. children, men, women, pregnant women, old people.
• LEARNING MATERIALS: Posters/Charts showing good uses of drugs
WEEK FOUR
• TOPIC: Personal Hygiene - Care of the Body
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Discuss personal hygiene to the pupils.
ii. Sing the song on parts of paper the body and their care.
iii. Guide the child to identify some parts of the body e.g. head, mouth, ears, eyes, head, legs, skin, etc.
• LEARNING MATERIALS: Posters/Charts showing the body parts and how to care for them
WEEK FIVE
• TOPIC: Personal Hygiene - Care of the Body II
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES
i. Demonstrate and discuss about oral hygiene e.g. bathing twice daily, cutting of fingers or toes' nails short, wearing clean cloth, etc.
ii. List and discuss the consequences of
neglecting care of the body e.g. germs, diseases, body rashes etc.
• LEARNING MATERIALS: Videos of rhymes about Proper Care of the body
WEEK SIX: MID TERM BREAK
WEEK SEVEN
• TOPIC: Personal Hygiene - Toilet Uses
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Guide pupils to identify and locate toilets in the school premises.
ii. Mention types of toilet e.g. pit, water closet
iii. Mention some uses of toilets e.g. to urinate, to defecate.
• LEARNING MATERIALS: Posters/Charts showing the types of toilet and how to use it.
WEEK EIGHT
• TOPIC: Toilet-Habits
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Mention some items that can be found in the toilet e.g. tissue paper, napkin, liquid soap, cleaning brush, washing sink, closet, water reservoir etc.
ii. Train pupils to wash hands after the use of
toilet.
• LEARNING MATERIALS: Real Objects like tissue paper, napkin, liquid soap, cleaning brush, washing sink, closet, water reservoir etc.
WEEK NINE
• TOPIC: Orphans
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Discuss who an orphan is with the pupils.
ii. Discuss some result of psychological distress condition of an orphan e.g. fear, withdrawal, neglect etc.
• LEARNING MATERIALS: Folktales on who orphans are and what they face.
WEEK 10 & 11: REVISION
WEEK 12 & 13: EXAMINATION
