SOCIAL HABITS SCHEME OF WORK FOR NURSERY ONE (FIRST TERM)

This Social Habits Scheme of Work for Nursery One (First Term) was prepared in accordance to the Lagos State Government Ministry of Education, Early Childhood Care Scheme and has been simplified in such a way that all teachers taking the class will be able easily understand and prepare their lesson plans with it.  

It comprises of the topic, teaching activities and suggested learning materials

SUBJECT: SOCIAL HABITS (FIRST TERM)

WEEK ONE

• TOPIC: Myself

• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES

i. Teacher introduces himself/herself to the class. 

ii. Teacher guides pupils to mention their names one after the other.

iii. Teacher makes pupils mention names of at least three (3) other pupils in the class.

• LEARNING MATERIALS: Posters/Chart/Books orespective 


WEEK TWO

• TOPIC: Myself (Contd) 

• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:

i. Teacher mentions his/her age to the class.

ii. Pupils are then encouraged to mention their ages one after the other.

iii. Each pupil is made to state his/her gender.

iv. Compose a song on "Myself

• LEARNING MATERIALS: Posters Chart/Books on birth


WEEK THREE

• TOPIC: My Family

• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES

i. Teacher leads the pupils to state the number of people living in their respective house.

ii. pupils are led to mention the names of their parents.

ii. Pupils are guided to mention the names of other members of their families.

iv. Composea rhyme on "My Family" 

LEARNING MATERIALS: Posters/Chart/Pictures of members of the family


WEEK FOUR

• TOPIC: My School

• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES

i. Teacher leads the pupils to state the name of their school.

ii. Teacher tells the pupils the address of the school.

iii. Teacher guides the pupils to identify the Head of School.

iv. Pupils are made to list common objects or things found around the school 

v. Pupils are made to state activities carried out in the school 

• LEARNING MATERIALS: Pictures of the structure of a school and the objects that can be found in the school 


WEEK FIVE

• TOPIC: Greetings

• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES

i. Teacher leads the pupils through the basic greetings and appropriate responses.

ii. Teacher demonstrates ways people from different parts of the country greet. 

iii. Pupils are made to role-play parental roles and elicit proper greeting.

iv. Teacher guides the pupils on when to say the following greeting: Good morning, Good afternoon, Good evening, Welcome and Goodbye in the three major tribes we have in Nigeria

• LEARNING MATERIALS: Videos of Rhymes on Greetings


GROUP WORK: 

Teacher with the pupils either in small groups or as an entire class do a group work based on any of the topics taught between weeks 1 - 5.


WEEK SIX: MID TERM BREAK


WEEK SEVEN

• TOPIC: Greetings (Magic Words)

• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES

i. Teacher introduces the five (5) magic words to the pupils.

ii. Teacher explains the circumstances when the magic words must be used and encourages the use of these words in their interaction with others.

ii. Compose a rhyme on the USE OF MAGIC WORDS or demonstrate the use of these words.

• LEARNING MATERIALS: Video(s) of the Rhymes on The Five Magic Words; Chart on the Expressions of the Five Magic Words


WEEK EIGHT

• TOPIC: Respect for Elders and Others

• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES

i. Teacher states ways to show respect for elders.

ii. Pupils are asked how to show respect to their parents and older siblings/neighbours.

iii. The teacher discusses various acts that constitute respect for elders.

iv. Sing a song on "Respect" 

• LEARNING MATERIALS: Posters/Charts showing various ways of showing respect to elderly people


WEEK NINE

• TOPIC: Simple Instructions

• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES

i. Teacher leads the pupils to carry out simple instructions.

ii. Teacher guides pupils in giving the appropriate response to such instructions.

iii. Pupils are given instructions and are guided by the teacher to ensure they carry them out.

iv. The class sing songs on how to obey and carry out simple instructions.

• LEARNING MATERIALS: Videos of rhymes that teaches simple instructions


WEEK 10 & 11: Revision


WEEK 12 & 13: Examination
