CIVIC EDUCATION SCHEME OF WORK FOR NUSERY ONE (FIRST TERM)

 This Civic Education Scheme Of Work for Nursery One (First Term) was prepared in accordance to the Lagos State Government Ministry of Education, Early Childhood Care Scheme and has been simplified in such a way that all teachers taking the class will be able easily understand and prepare their lesson plans with it.  

It comprises of the topic, teaching activities and suggested learning materials

SUBJECT: CIVIC EDUCATION

FIRST TERM

WEEK ONE: 

• TOPIC - Social Behaviour

• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES: Teacher should:

i. Discuss the simple meaning of social behaviour

ii. Give examples of social behaviour to pupils -sharing toys, joining queues smiling, playing with others etc.

iii. Encourage interaction between child and other people.

• LEARNING MATERIALS: Videos of children playing together; Songs and Rhymes on Togetherness

WEEK TWO: 

• TOPIC: Myself

• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES: Teacher should:

i. Give simple meaning of myself.

ii. Guide pupils to recognize self as a boy or girl.

iii. Encourage interaction of pupils with teachers, family members father, mother, aunt, uncle, grandma, grandpa, etc.

• LEARNING MATERIALS: Picture books describing a person; Video of a boy or girl introducing himself or herself; Rhymes on Myself

WEEK 3: 

• TOPIC: Self Expression

• CONTENT/TEACHING ACTIVITIES: Teacher should:

i. Discuss simple meaning of self expression to pupils.

ii. Engage the pupils to ask and talk freely on issues related to them.

iii. Develop and show attachment to the pupils e.g. listening, talking, singing, clapping, telling stories etc.

WEEK FOUR:

• TOPIC: Simple Greeting

• CONTENT/TEACHING ACTIVITIES: Teacher should:

i. Discuss simple meaning of greetings.

ii. Encourage pupils to greet at appropriate time of the day or season in their locality at home and school, 

• LEARNING MATERIALS: Pictures of children greeting their parents, teachers and friends; videos of rhymes on greeting

WEEK FIVE: 

• TOPIC: Respect

• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES: Teacher should:

i. Discuss simple meaning of Respect

ii. Encourage children to show respect to elders e.g. teachers, mother, father, older peers.

iii. LEARNING MATERIALS: Posters of children respects to other members in the family and elderly ones.

WEEK SIX: Mid Term Break

WEEK SEVEN

• TOPIC: Appreciation. 

• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES: Teacher should: 

i. Discuss simple meaning of appreciation.

ii. Train the pupils on how to appreciate token of love and gifts by saying 'Thank you'.

• LEARNING MATERIALS: Charts with pictures of children children appreciating others

i. give simple meaning of Courtesy

ii. Encourage children how to show simple courtesy to everyone in school and at home.
