This Civic Education Scheme Of Work for Nursery One (First Term) was prepared in accordance to the Lagos State Government Ministry of Education, Early Childhood Care Scheme and has been simplified in such a way that all teachers taking the class will be able easily understand and prepare their lesson plans with it.
It comprises of the topic, teaching activities and suggested learning materials
SUBJECT: CIVIC EDUCATIONS (SECOND TERM)
WEEK ONE: Revision of 1st Term's work
WEEK TWO:
• TOPIC: Emotion
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES: Teacher should:
i. Give simple meaning of Emotion.
ii. List some actions expressing emotions e.g. cring, smiling, cuddling, tickling and hugging.
ii. Encourage children to show friendly behaviour towards others and make friends irrespective of sex.
• LEARNING MATERIALS: Pictures of emotional expressions
WEEK THREE:
• TOPIC: Quality Care
• CONTENT/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Give simple meaning of care to the pupils.
ii. Demonstrate and list some actions of giving quality care to others e.g. lifting someone that falls down, etc.
• TEACHING MATERIALS: Pictures or videos of people giving care to others
WEEK FOUR:
• TOPIC: Forming Bonds
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES: Teachers should:
i. Give simple meaning of bonds
ii. List and discuss some traits that can strengthen healthy bonds among children e.g love, honesty, trust, charity (giving).
• TEACHING MATERIALS: Pictures/Videos of people showing love; Rhymes or poems on love, trust, honesty or charity
WEEK FIVE:
• TOPIC: Basic Child's Rights
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES: Teacher should:
i. Give simple meaning of Right
ii. Discuss some basic Child's Rights to pupils e.g. to life, good health, good food, talk, education, play etc.
• TEACHING MATERIALS: Posters showing basic child's right
WEEK SEVEN: Mid Term Break
WEEK EIGHT:
• TOPIC: Individual Differences
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES: Teachers should:
i. Discuss simple meaning of individual differences to the pupils.
ii. Discuss the individual differences pupils exhibit in the class and train the pupils to respect and accept other pupils.
• TEACHING MATERIALS: Pictures of children with various individual differences
WEEK NINE:
• TOPIC: Care of Belongings
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES: Teacher should:
i. Discuss the meaning of personal belongings with the pupils.
ii. Guide the children to identify some personal belongings e.g. school bag, uniform, socks, shoes, water bottle etc.
iii. Train the pupils on care of personal belongings.
• TEACHING MATERIALS: Real Objects - Pupils personal belongings
WEEK TEN:
• TOPIC: Honesty
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES: Teacher should:
i. Discuss simple meaning of honesty.
ii. Discuss and train children how to be honest pupils in the school and at home.
ii. Discourage anti-social behaviour among children
WEEK 10 &11: Revision
WEEK 12 &13: Examination
