SOCIAL HABITS SCHEME OF WORK FOR NURSERY ONE (THIRD TERM)

This Social Habits Scheme of Work for Nursery One (Third Term) was prepared in accordance to the Lagos State Government Ministry of Education, Early Childhood Care Scheme and has been simplified in such a way that all teachers taking the class will be able easily understand and prepare their lesson plans with it. 

It comprises of the topic, teaching activities and suggested learning materials.

SOCIAL HABITS - NURSERY ONE (THIRD TERM)


WEEK ONE: Revision of Second Term's Work

WEEK TWO
• TOPIC: Religion and Places of Worship
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Teacher leads the pupils traditional by giving a simple meaning on what "Religion" is and the three major religions in Nigeria.
ii. Pupils are then encouraged to mention the religion they practise.
ii. Teacher explains where the "three type" of religion pictures worship and the objects used to worship.
• LEARNING MATERIALS: Pictures/Posters of the three major religions in Nigeria, their places of worship and the objects the use in worshipping.


WEEK THREE
• TOPIC: Religion and Places of Worship (Continued)
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Teacher demonstrates the activities carried out in the various places of worship.
ii. Teacher encourages pupils on the need to pray/worship reverently, not to use bad language and keeping the place of worship neat.
iii. Pupils are made to mention where they worship and their names.
iv. Pupils compose a song on Religion and Places of Worship.

• LEARNING MATERIALS: Pictures/Posters of the three major religions in Nigeria, their places of worship and the objects the use in worshipping


WEEK FOUR
• TOPIC: Community Helpers
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Teacher gives simple meaning/explanation of who community helpers are
ii. Teacher gives examples of community helpers and state their roles.
iii. Pupils are encouraged to mention other community helpers in their community.
• LEARNING MATERIALS: Posters/Pictures of equipment and facilities for children with special needs in the community and the community workers that use them.


WEEK FIVE
• TOPIC: Culture
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Teacher leads by explaining in a simple term what culture is.
ii. Teacher explains the reflection of culture on the following:
     a. Way of Dressing.
     b. Language
     c. Dancing
     d. Names
     e. Greetings
     f. Food
• LEARNING MATERIALS: Posters/Chart on reflection of culture on various aspects of life.

WEEK SIX: MID TERM BREAK


WEEK SEVEN
• TOPIC: Respect (People and Places to Respect)
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Teacher states certain people in the society that should be respected e.g. Traditional Rulers, Governor, Teacher etc.
ii. Teacher guides the pupils on the national symbols that should be respected e.g. National Flag, National Coat of Arms, National currency etc.
iii. Pupils are encouraged to show respect to certain places e.g. National Arts Theatre, General Hospital, Police Station, National Museum, National Library, The Courthouse, etc.
iv. Pupils are encouraged to mention the activities that go on in these places.
• LEARNING MATERIALS: Pictures/Chart of various people to be respected in the society.


WEEK EIGHT
• TOPIC: Peace Education
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Teacher gives simple neaning on what "peace" is.
ii. Teacher explains the need for peace.
iii. Pupils are made to mention places where peace is needed.
iv. Pupils should role-play what they should do to maintain peace in their community.
• LEARNING MATERIALS: Videos of Rhymes on Peace and Making Peace with others


WEEK NINE
• TOPIC: Our Country
• CONTENTS/TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
i. Teacher lists the national identities e.g. National Flag, Anthem, Pledge, etc.
ii. Teacher introduces pupils to states and their capital.
iii. The teacher leads the pupils to recite the national anthem and pleage.
iv. Pupils are encouraged to mention their duties to their country.
v. Sing a song on MY COUNTRY.
• LEARNING MATERIALS: Pictures/Charts of Nigeria Coats of Arms, Nigerian Map and National Flag, Anthem and Pledge


WEEK 10 & 11: REVISION

WEEK 12 & 13: EXAMINATION
